Privacy and Social Rules

Prior to the Mashup ‘The New Social Rules” event being held on Wed 24 November at which I am a panellist, I gave an interview for the Imperica website on “Privacy and Social Rules”.

My central thesis is that there is simply not enough clarity for the average user on what the level of privacy any particular website or service operates at.  In the absence of that clarity,  privacy abuses abound and, if a level of reasonable self-regulation does not occur, then Governments will step in to make rules which will be different in each jurisdiction which will harm the underlying tenet of the web, that is it is a WORLD WIDE web.
